Grants in Action

Over its history, the Community Foundation has awarded over $2.7 million in Community Enrichment Grants from its unrestricted assets. In 2007, the Foundation made grants of approximately $144,650 to 17 nonprofit organizations that serve Greenville County.

Taylor Leopard, a student at the Meyer Center for Special Children, works with Wendy Shockley, MCD, CCC/SLP, speech therapist.   Taylor is using the GO Talk 20+, an augmentative communication device which assists her with literacy skills and provides Taylor a “voice” in the classroom.  Thanks to a grant from the Community Foundation, the Meyer Center has established a “lending library” of communication devices which are available for teachers, parents and therapists to enable them to evaluate and select the most appropriate tool for a child’s needs.  Grant Amount:  $9,102



 

Roy Thurston with Meals on Wheels packs meals for delivery to clients using the heated thermal bags provided by a grant from the Community Foundation.  The thermal bags ensure that all meals are kept hot and at safe temperatures (above 140? ) at all times”   Grant Amount: $7,500



In early 2008, Greenville Rape Crisis & Child Abuse Center will unveil a book of survivor's stories of healing and recovery following childhood sexual abuse and sexual assault. The book will also include profiles of local professionals who have dedicated their careers to the healing process. The purpose of the book will be to bring awareness to the community about these crimes as well as offer hope and encouragement to our Greenville neighbors who may be struggling with the impact of sexual assault and childhood sexual abuse in their own lives.  Grant Amount: $10,000
